Practices
Over the past 16 years, EcoLogical Solutions has developed innovative
environmental solutions both large and small for The Saunders Hotel Group, from
linen reuse and food down-cycling to alternative fuel and power procurement.
The Saunders Family hotels are operated in one of the most competitive travel
markets in the US, therefore, we strive to design and implement practical,
profitable, and low-maintenance environmental solutions. As the hospitality
industry greens itself in response to and for the benefit of social,
environmental, and financial pressures, we are challenged to stay on the leading
edge. We believe we have done and will continue to do our part in making The
Saunders Hotel Group one of the most environmentally innovative hotel groups in
the world.

Presidents Award of Excellence UCS Guide to Effective Environmental Choices Compressed Natural Gas Shuttle Van
We use and recycle efficient, low-mercury fluorescent bulbs in back-of-house spaces. We recycle as much as possible - plastic, glass, cardboard, and even food! Our ozone laundry machine reduces the hot water loads by over 50%, saving on heating costs, extending the life of linens, and making them healthier for guests to use. We use the Project Planet model to encourage multi-night guests to reuse their towels and linens for the duration of their visit. Our amenity dispensers hold luxury quality soaps and lotions, and eliminate the need for thousands of bottles each year. Our pool cleaning system can eliminate the use of chlorine. We collect used shoes in our hotel lobby's and donate them to be used as playgrounds for urban parks. Guest get a discount on their hotel room for donating. A brochure in each guestroom describes our environmental efforts and awards. Tedd Saunders receives the President's Award of Excellence from former President of the United States, George Bush Sr. and the First Lady, Barbara Bush. We encourage our owners, management, and employees to help clean up the environment each year on Earth Day! A copy of the UCS Guide to Effective Environmental Choices is in each guestroom at The Lenox Hotel for each guest to enjoy. Recycled plastic cards with energy, water, and waste facts are placed in rooms for guest education. We operate a fleet of CNG vans to pick up guests at the airport. With approximately 180,000 miles of travel per year, the 80% reduction in harmful emissions goes a long way! The Saunders Hotel Group was named EnergyStar Partner of the Year in 2005. We continue to achieve "Superior Energy Ratings" at a majority of our hotels.
